Wylderness are known for their ability to craft unique textures and sprawling, impressive soundscapes in their music. Their latest single, ‘Chet Chat’, is a masterclass in shoegaze. The first half of the track is an indulgent, tranquil introduction that allows vocals to swim amongst a wobbly, restrained, clean guitar. The second half is a swirling crescendo of noise and distortion, that almost drowns out any of the remaining vocals. “I was on the balcony of an apartment in Athens writing lyrics for this song when all of a sudden there was this enormous roar and the building started shaking,” they say, on the inspiration behind the track. “The earthquake lasted about 15 seconds but seemed like it went on forever. Everyone was fine thankfully and I wanted to write something about what had happened, but not make it too obvious and clunky, so it ended up being a bit cryptic.” Their second album, Big Plans For A Blue World, drops on July 15th, 2022. -Dan Peeke.
